Manali - The Beauty Of Himachal Pradesh

Manali

City in Himachal Pradesh

Manali is a high-altitude Himalayan city in the northern Indian subcontinent in Himachal Pradesh. It has a reputation as a backpack and honeymoon destination. Set on the Beas River, it is the ski resort in the Solang Valley and the Parvati Valley. It is also a place for paragliding, rafting and mountain climbing in the mountains of Pir Panjal, home to the 4,000m-high Rohtang Pass.

Manali is named after Satan the Hindu lawmaker Manu. The name Manali is considered to be derived from 'Manu-Alaya' which means 'Manu's abode'. Legend has it that the wise Manu descended from his ship at Manali to resume human life after the great flood that once flooded the earth. Manali lies in the North of the Kullu Valley. This valley is often called the 'Valley of the Gods'. The old town of Manali has an ancient temple dedicated to the wisdom of Manu.

The British brought apple trees to the area. The first apple orchard was established by the British near Patlikuhal, and before that, no Apple trees had grown in the area. To this day, apples - as well as plums and pears - are still the best source of income for most people. Both the Rainbow Princess and the Brown Trout were also introduced into the rivers and streams of the area by the colonists.

With the increase in disposal revenue and the increase in disruptions in Kashmir in the late 1980s, Manali saw an increase in tourist traffic. The once quiet town was transformed into a bustling city with many residential and occasional shopping malls. During the warm summer months, fine restaurants and restaurants seem to be doing quick business.
